Navigating a Workplace That Isn't Built for Obesity

Work is a huge part of our lives, but the workplace isn't always designed for our bodies. From uncomfortable seating and tight spaces to judgment from colleagues, the office can be a source of stress.

What has been your biggest challenge in the workplace, and what advice would you give to others who are struggling with it?

  1. When i had a sit down job, it was the chairs and being uncomfortable. When I worked other jobs it was the physical aspect of walking and standing without option to sit too long. Breathing was HARD. Just existing was difficult...

    1. The average chair is definitely not built for obese people. Standard office chairs have weight limits of 250 pounds. I know many tall men who don't seem at all obese who weigh more than that. I can imagine sit-down jobs must have been horribly uncomfortable if you had employers who didn't provide accomodations. I can understand how the opposite type of job would be hard as well. Did you ever find employment that was suitable for you or did you find an empathetic and accomodating employer? Warm wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    2. ive been on disability since 2014 and haven't worked since 2008 I believe. Haven't had to deal with the work force thankfully.
