I'll never diet again the first 3 letters spell die!

Gastric bypass

  1. Hello again, I did not and do not receive any mental health counseling and yes I believe mental health should be addressed before and after gastric bypass! Thank you so much for Lori!

    1. I could not agree more. Mental health support is so important. Are you now getting some metal health support. Have you found ways to manage you anxiety ? We are here for you.

I just read the story that you shared about a part of your journey. I am so inspired by you. Well done Lisa! You have so much to be proud of.

      Warmly,

  2. Hi . Welcome to the community! Was your gastric bypass a success or did it not result in sustainable weight loss? Regardless, I'm glad you found us and that you are letting go of the "diet" mindset. The word itself invokes so much negativity for some people. It can be destructive instead of constructive. I'd love to hear more about your journey if you don't mind sharing. Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. I've been wanting to share my story for years and thank you for wanting to listen! I weighed 340 lbs a year and a half later I weighed 147 lbs I never dreamed life would be so different how family looked at me and strangers let alone the men I mean wow! Three weeks after my surgery my husband left me I didn't speak for 4 months not a word and then my life turned upside down and did a 360° 10 years went by and I still don't know who was at the wheel of my life!! Addiction OMG! I never knew that I would become addicted to just about everything Street drugs prescription drugs I started smoking cigarettes I'm still smoking! The drugs were masking some real problems I ended up in the hospital I had a blood transfusion because I was so anemic my teeth rotted I have no teeth now a perforated ulcer during surgery they took my spleen early menopause I absolutely thought I'd lose my mind and now the anxiety I experience is off the charts!! Lisa y.

    2. What a journey, Lisa! Addiction can be so unbearably powerful. My nephew lost his battle after 15 years, so I am thrilled you are here now, fighting yours. I wish you hadn't lost your teeth, but I hope you now have dentures and that you wear them with pride. Recovering from drug addiction is a huge achievement and, if people don't recognize that, the fault lies with them, not you. You'll quit smoking eventually, but be gentle with yourself and give the self the time and kindness you need to do it.
It sounds like you really would have benefitted from counseling or therapy after the surgery, especially since your husband left you and since your physical changes were so dramatic. Did your doctors ever address your mental health before or after your weight loss surgery? Are you getting the help you need now? Do you have much support? Do you think mental health services should be integrated in the bariac surgery and recovery processes? Thinking of you and sending lots of gentle hugs your way. - Lori (Team Member)
