Body Positivity

What do you love about your body?

How has it shown up for you?

  1. I've come here because I'm really upset. I just found out that I gained 21 pounds in 4 months. I've never been this heavy before. I went through a period of severe restricting in 2023. I lost fat but also a ton of muscle to the point that getting in my car was difficult. I wanted to find a happy medium, but instead I've gained a ton of weight. I'm sad. I'm angry. I've never been this heavy before.

    1. Hi . That can be quite a shock. My heart goes out to you. Have you made any changes in your activity levels or diet in the past few months? Have you started taking any new medications? There are several medications that can cause weight gain. If you can't find any external factors that might have resulted in weight gain, it might be wise to see your doctor and have your thyroid levels checked. You might also try keeping a journal for a few weeks of what you eat, your activities and your sleep. The journal can help you and your doctor determine whether your weight gain is due to lifestyle changes or something else entirely. Please know we are here for you. Keep us posted. I'll be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. I do not love my body anymore. It is broken down, overweight and the fat just doesn't want to leave. I don't have good days and bad days, they all suck. I just try to hide my feelings best I can and go on.

    1. I'm opposed to dieting. I did that and it has destroyed my life. It's made me hate my body. It's made me struggle in social gatherings, family events, and being with friends because I only think about food that I can't have. I'm afraid to eat at these events because I'm anxious about the food. I've lost friends because of diets because what I ate was more important than them. It screwed up my sex life with my wife. It screws with my ability to spend time and be present with my wife and son because food is on my mind ALL. THE. TIME! Diet culture tells us unless we look a certain way we're not good enough. Right now I hate my body because I'm fat. Diet culture told me to hate my body because I don't have a six pack.

    2. Hi . You're not alone. That's why doctors won't prescribe weight loss medications to people with a history of disordered eating. It can be too dangerous mentally and physically. I suggested in another comment seeing your doctor for some blood tests. If that doesn't reveal anything, have you considered seeing a therapist who specializes in disordered eating? The depression and anger at your recent weight gain can actually backfire, causing you to gain even more weight. A good therapist will help you develop coping mechanisms that can prevent that from happening. If you've never seen a therapist before, the thought of it can be intimidating, but once you have that first session, that feeling will pass. Sometimes it's just nice to be able to talk honestly with a third party who has no real stake in your life. Sending the best of all wishes your way. - Lori (Team Member)

  3. Nothing makes me confident or not confident. Like everything else not good, no bad not anything, just is.

    1. I don't understand why anyone feels any way about much at all. Okay a funny joke or a sad movie or whatever but, 99.999% of everything just is how it is.

No feeling this or that way or doing this or that changes how the world is.

We are born through no choice of our own, we have to survive however we can, then we die. Same for every human and animal there is.

It just is how it is, we just are how we were born, same as any animal. No feeling will change genetics.

    2. I never thought of it that way, but that is an interesting perspective, and I imagine it can be a very healthy one. Thanks for sharing. 😀 - Lori (Team Member)

  4. being around true friends

    1. It's so important to surround ourselves with people who appreciate us for who were are. Thanks for this reminder. - Lori (Team Member)
