I need a pro tip for online dietitian/nutritionist (US only)

Hi! I've been doing some cardio for 5 months but I feel like I'm always improvising in the kitchen and it's messing with my progress. I hate guessing with my meals, so I want some legit help. Anyone know where I can find good online nutritionists that aren't scams or super generic?

  1. Hi Lori, I tried the gym, but to be honest, it was boring. Playing with cardio routines is more engaging for me.

I also want to add that yesterday, while talking with colleagues about this, I found out that I have appointments included with my Gympass benefit, something called Nutrium. On the same day, I managed to book and attend an appointment with a registered dietitian. I’ve got another appointment in a month and an app to talk with the nutritionist anytime and check my plan. So far, I'm really impressed.

    Anyone else tried this?

    1. That's great! I was actually going to suggest looking through your insurance/work benefits. I have been hearing about companies including meeting with a nutritionist as a benefit perk lately. I just met with one associated with my company and it went really well. They basically sat me down and asked for a very candid look at what I eat regularly. It required me to be very honest about my diet, my time restrictions, and what changes I was capable of making. They recommended very small changes right now and to make those changes stick, then move on to include more changes, etc. I'm so with you - I've developed a workout routine but my eating/kitchen habits haven't yet caught up. What did your nutritionist recommend for you when you met with them? 💙 Kayleigh, Obesity.net Team Member

    2. How awesome! I hadn't thought about accessing a nutritionist through your work benefits. I am glad that worked out for you, and for you as well, ! Our nearest gym is the YMCA, which is 40 minutes away, so I also prefer other cardio. Lots of walking and stepping with some occasional jump roping when I am feeling especially brave and energetic. Keep us updated if you don't mind. I would love to hear about the nutritionist and how it's working out. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. Hi . How awesome that you have made cardio part of your regular routine! You are wise to take a skeptical approach to online nutritionalists. Your best bet would be to ask your doctor for a referral and then, if you would rather not see the nutritionalist in person, see about virtual visits. Your doctor might even find a way to get insurance coverage for it. Here is a wonderful article about the role of nutritionalists and how to find a reputable one: https://obesity.net/nutritionist. Do you mind me asking what you are doing for cardio and whether you are enjoying it? I hope this helps and that you will let us know how it works out. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
